Salt and brine have had a decisive influence on Rappenau since their discovery in 1822. Since 1930, the place has been adorned with the title and suffix “Bad”. The story of the origin and discovery of salt in our area, as well as the extraction, use of brine and salt production is extremely interesting. A special city tour is dedicated to the topic of “salt & brine”. Udo Peters, dressed as a miner, leads the participants to borehole 1 on the edge of the Einsiedel Forest, where the salt works inspector Rosentritt first encountered the “white gold” in Bad Rappenau’s district in 1822.

The functions of the pedal wheel, the brine derrick and the brine graduation tower are explained on the approximately 1 kilometer long route. There is an opportunity to take a look at the Salt & Brine exhibition in one of the brine bore houses. During the approximately one-hour guided tour, guests learn more about the history of the brine drilling rig near Einsiedelwald and the former saltworks site in the Salinenpark.

The tours take place twice a month from April to September, on a Sunday each time.
